Taking the train

It’s almost unavoidable

Sitting beside someone

We’ve never met before

In our lives

Spending some time with them

Then getting off the train

To never meet them again

And knowing this from the start

This parting

It’s such a strange meeting

Being only briefly cognizant

Of each other’s existence
